My spring experiment
What actually happens when you make one of the most underestimated plants in our meadows your daily companion? I wanted to find out and did the self-test for 21 days.
What began as a simple idea quickly turned into a surprisingly intense experience – both physically and mentally. Here are my findings from three weeks with the “queen of wild herbs”.

The first few days: skepticism and burning respect
In the beginning, it was mainly the respect I had for picking. It was clear to me that gloves were out of the question, I wanted to experience the plant in its purest form. And yes, it did sting at first. But the first surprise was not long in coming: it was less bad than expected.
Something fascinating happened with every further contact: My skin seemed to get used to it. After a few days, I had the feeling that I was almost “immune” to the burning sensation. A beautiful symbol of how we can grow in the face of challenges.

My gut feeling: an unexpectedly pleasant change
The most noticeable effect was on my digestion. Even after the first week, I noticed a change that I hadn’t planned. My entire system became:
- More coherent: a subtle but very pleasant sense of well-being in everyday life.
- More regular: everything found its rhythm.
- Calmer: Less restlessness in the gastrointestinal tract.
Light legs instead of heavy steps
One effect that I honestly wouldn’t have expected so quickly: the feeling of water in my legs has noticeably subsided. My legs felt lighter, less “puffy”. The difference was particularly noticeable in the evening. The traditional dehydrating effect of stinging nettle is no longer theory for me, but actual experience.

Small plant, big effect: my summary
What surprised me most was the overall picture after 21 days. It’s not just a single factor, but the interaction:
- Contact with the plant has become a beloved habit.
- My body feels more balanced overall.
- Digestion runs smoothly and reliably.
- Water retention has decreased significantly.
Conclusion: Will I continue?
A resounding yes! I can no longer imagine my kitchen without stinging nettles. My absolute insider tip: cook a few nettle tips in the vegetable stock. It doesn’t take much to get that special, deep flavor.
This experiment showed me that the things we overlook or even avoid often have the greatest potential. Sometimes it is enough to give an inconspicuous plant a chance to understand your own body a little better.
